On August 27, 2026, Gladys Knight released a statement, declaring that she was going to start the next phase of her life, where her priorities will change. This came shortly before TMZ revealed that some sources didn't think she should be performing at all.

In an image posted on Instagram, Knight announced, "After much soul searching I've decided that I will be easing into fewer performances while focusing on transitioning into the next stage of my career and life moving forward."
The 82-year-old went on to explain that she would be focusing on projects with her husband and spending more time with her grandchildren. She was "looking forward to this new era." Her statement finished with a thank you to all the fans who have been a part of her career for several decades.

That same day, TMZ reported that many of her supporters were actually concerned that Knight was being "forced to perform" way too many concerts. The legend has been on tour for the past few months, with dates almost every Saturday and Sunday this past July alone.
Her show at the Hollywood Bowl on July 25 caused the most upset among fans, as Knight seemed to suddenly want to walk off the stage, while a backup singer was trying to stop her.

According to the outlets' sources, some people told the singer's team that it was "not suitable" for her to continue her shows. But her husband and manager, William McDowell, explained that Knight wants to keep performing.
"No one is ever gonna make me say, 'My wife is well,' but all she wants to do is sing," he said, also revealing that she has not been diagnosed with anything, but they would be going to doctors to check her health.
